So what is 'Ethical Meat'?
the definition of 'Ethical' is -relating to moral principles,
'The principles of right and wrong that
are accepted by an individual or social group'.
SUSTAINABLE MEAT - from land that keeps giving, farmed by families that thrive and succeed, makes humans healthy and benefits our planet not force it to recede!
HIGH WELFARE MEAT - Treat those at your mercy (animals) with respect and kindness, allow them to behave in a way that fits their nature and eat the diet that was designed for them . Let them live naturally without disease, unnecessary intervention or fear.
HEALTHY MEAT - It nourishes you, tastes delicious and gives your body what it needs, not only to operate but to thrive. Resembles most closely the wild meat eaten by our ancestors for which our bodies have evolved to eat.
FAIR TRADE MEAT - We work within each farmers seasons, time scales and supply. The meat is not 'pushed' but 'harvested' when ready with thought for their constraints. By purchasing full animals direct from farmers and giving them good market value 'up front' we hope to build sustainable relationships that benefit everyone.
SOCIAL MEAT - In a world where you may not know your neighbour, we want you to use this buying experience as a way of recapturing the celebration and joy of eating and sharing food. From sharing recipes on your 'stake' forum to having a feast with you family when you 'stake' arrives, we want to encourage community, around eating.
MINDFUL EATING - There is a long and complicated process producing your food, from the birth of the animal until years later when the meat is served on your plate. We would like to encourage awareness over every part of this process and full appreciation of the consequences of your choices.
“... food is not simply organic fuel to keep body and soul together, it is a perishable art that must be savoured at the peak of perfection.”
